This list of movie apps will place thousands of free movies at your reach. I've used all of these apps myself, but there are some that I prefer over others (keep reading to find out why).
You will be able to watch comedies, family films, action films, documentaries and many others. There really is something for everyone!

O YouTube has an incredible collection of completely free movies. In fact, the company puts together its own list, so you don't have to sift through random profiles to find full-length movies that are legal to watch.
It's super easy to find best free movies on YouTube, just open the Movies & TV page. All regular genres are included, so you can browse movies tagged as action, horror, sci-fi, drama, comedy, etc. There is also an Independent section.
As you would expect, you can stream YouTube movies on all the best smartphones and devices such as iOS and Android mobile devices, Android TV, Apple TV, Chromecast and Roku.
2. Tubi TV
What We Like 👍
- Movies are in their own list, separate from TV shows.
- High quality films.
- Provides trailers.
- Identifies when a movie is about to be removed.
- Includes a children's category and live TV.
What We Don't Like 👎
- It is not possible to sort lists by genre.
This app looks almost identical to Tubi website, but it's optimized so well for mobile devices that it's super easy to use. All the same genres and the search tool are available in the app, and each movie cover is large enough to see without having to tap on it. There are tens of thousands of movies and shows to choose from here.
Choosing a movie will take you to the description page, where the release date, duration, genre, and similar titles you might like are shown. “Liking” or “disliking” a movie teaches the app what it should recommend to you in the future.
One of the reasons I classified the Tubi as one of best apps for free movies it's because of its amazing curated collections like Cult Classics, Tubi Exclusives, and Highly Rated on Rotten Tomatoes. An added bonus is that you can start watching right away without needing a user account.
O Tubi It works not only on phones and tablets, but also on streaming devices and smart TVs.
3. Amazon Prime Video (Freevee)
What We Like 👍
- Properly separates movies from TV shows.
- All category lists can be filtered for relevant navigation.
- Includes trailers.
- App-wide search includes a filter to only show free content.
What We Don't Like 👎
- You must have an Amazon account.
It may not seem like the Amazon Prime Video belongs on this list, but there's actually an entire section in the app that only lists the movies and shows that Amazon lets you watch completely for free. This service is called Freevee.
Something I especially like is how these films are organized. There are typical categories to help you find popular and recently added movies, as well as genre-specific lists like comedies, dramas, etc. But within each list, you can further refine the results by subtitle language and genre.
I also saw useful collections like Movies of the Month and Freevee Originals.
Just like most movie apps, O Freevee is also available in a web browser and as a TV app.
The links below are to the Prime Video app, but there is also an application dedicated to Freevee. I prefer the Prime Video because it has better sorting options, but the Freevee app It's good if you don't want to see rent/buy options.
4. Fandango at Home
What We Like 👍

- It clearly differentiates free films from paid ones.

- You free movies are often removed.
- You must log in to access the content.
This one is well known for offering movies for purchase, but if you don't mind the occasional ad, you can also stream thousands of free movies on Fandango at Home (formerly Vudu), including its trailers.
View only the free options is easy; just open the page “Free” in the menu or search for films that have the “FREE WITH ADS“. From there, you can browse all the movies that are new this week, the most popular, or belonging to specific genres.
Another thing you can do is view all free movies from Fandango at Home on their website and then search for a specific movie in the app to watch it on your mobile device.
Other useful ways I like to find something to stream is through curated lists like Top 200, Hidden Gems, All-Time Movie Favorites, Captivating Dramas, LOL Comedies, Blast From the Past, Disaster Strikes, and Aliens and Outer Space.
I already watched movies of Fandango at Home through Android, iPhone and iPad apps, as well as through Roku and Chromecast. It also works on Apple TV.
5. Plex

O Plex it is a unique application. He offers free streaming of movies and TV shows like these other apps, but it can also connect to your computer to access your own media files from anywhere.
All typical genres are included, including one for audio description-only titles. O Plex also places films in unique categories such as Based on a True Story and Women Who Make History. I also like the “Leaving Soon” section, which allows me watch movies before they start to cost elsewhere.
You can also receive alerts when items on your Watch List are available for streaming, view movies similar to the one you're interested in, watch movies with friends remotely, browse upcoming titles, and view movies available on your other streaming services (Netflix , Hulu, etc.).
This app seems a little confusing because of all the things you can do in it. But after just a few minutes, you quickly get used to it. You free movies are easy to find if that's all you're interested in watching.
6. PlutoTV
What We Like 👍
- Watch movies while they are being broadcast live on TV.
- It has on-demand movies that you can watch as many times as you want.
- Works on many devices.
What We Don't Like 👎
- It has non-movie channels; It can be overwhelming if you just want to watch movies.
- You cannot rewatch a film unless it is on demand.
- Only a handful of movie channels available.
I like to open the PlutoTV to watch free movies when I don't know what to watch. Because it works like cable TV, with a guide and something always streaming live, it alleviates some of the decision anxiety that comes with these other apps.
There are two ways to watch content here. The cable TV-like service streams something all day long. There are even specific movie channels that just play movies continuously 24/7.
To give you an idea of the types of films you can find here, some titles I saw in my guide include Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, Monsters Inc., Orange County, Equilibrium, 12 Angry Oceans, and Safe Haven.
The other method is as a service streaming movies on demand. The app makes a clear distinction, so it's easy to switch between the two. This is where you want to be if you want more freedom when choosing your next movie. It's easy to see popular, trending, and newly added movies, as well as movies listed in specific genres.
There are several ways to transmit the PlutoTV. The mobile app works on Android and iOS, and although I watch from here sometimes, I much prefer the TV app because it scales better on a larger screen.
7. Filmzie

O Filmzie is designed for independent filmmakers and small studios. It's my go-to resource when I'm looking for something totally new.
The typical genre categories are available, as with most apps, but I love the unique ways in which the Filmzie organizes your films. Some examples include “Directed by Women”, “Highest Rated on IMDb”, “Cozy Comedies” and “Undiscovered Gems”.
The app is easy to use, has a very smooth interface, and you don't even need to create a user account to start streaming. It works on Android and iOS.
8. Redblox
What We Like 👍
- High quality films.
- Useful organization.
- No login required.
What We Don't Like 👎
- It is not possible to search just for free movies.
- Relatively few genres to choose from.
- Genre lists cannot be sorted.
You can watch free movies on demand available at Redbox through their mobile app. Just select “WATCH FREE” from the menu to find all ad-supported movies that you can stream online.
One of the reasons I think this is one of the best free movie apps is how the titles are organized. It's easy to see which ones are about to leave the free section soon, which movies were recently added to the collection, and which popular free movies. They are also organized by genre.
The app works on Android, iPhone and iPad. You can also stream these free movies on your Apple TV, Roku, and Chromecast.
9. Filmrise
What We Like 👍

- Simple and clean app design.
- Unique genres.
What We Don't Like 👎
- Lacks classification options within each genre.
- Scrolling from left to right.
- Absence of trailers.
At the Filmrise app, you can watch more free movies and shows. They add new content every day in genres like horror, crime, action, drama and documentaries. In addition, there are other categories such as Animals, Biographies, Coming-of-Age Films, Animations, Cops and Robbers, and Action Comedies.
You do not need a user account to watch movies In this app, you don't even need to sign up to create your own watch list and keep track of what you want to watch later. On each movie's page, you'll see related videos to help you find something else you might like.
You Filmrise movies can be streamed on most devices, such as Android and iOS, as well as Xbox and Roku.
10. Crackle

- Very simple search tool.
- It is not possible to sort by popularity.
- Few unique categories to choose from.
O Crackle supports virtually every device imaginable, including all popular mobile devices, most smart TVs, streaming players, and game consoles, as well as a regular web browser.
The interface is easy to use and videos stream smoothly. You don't need to log in to watch movies and TV shows, but the option is there if you need it.
One thing you won't find in many movie apps is the option to sort and filter the results. While I think more could be done here to make it even better, it's nice that Crackle lets you filter by genre and sort by title and the date movies were added to the app.
This app works with multiple devices including iPhone, iPad and Android.
11. Popcornflix
What We Like 👍
- Ads are usually quite short.
- Includes popular films.
- TV shows are in a separate area from movies.
- Subtitle and language options.
What We Don't Like 👎
- It's not possible to sort genre lists by popularity.
O Popcornflix and another free movie app which allows you to watch free movies away from your computer. I used to rate this app higher, but interface changes made a few years ago have made it a little more difficult to use.
Unlike some apps, this one makes a clear distinction between TV series and movies. Once you access the movies, choose a genre to narrow down the collection until you find what you want to watch. There are crime, sports, action, drama, horror, documentaries, thriller and science fiction films, as well as interesting sections such as Dark Forces Unleashed, Based on True Stories, Fight Night and Mafia Films.
O streaming movies through Popcornflix is supported on iPhone, iPad, Android and other devices like Roku and Apple TV.
12. The Roku Channel
What We Like 👍
- Recommends similar movies you might like.
- Highlights films that are about to come out soon.
- It also has live TV and on-demand TV shows.
What We Don't Like 👎
- Requires a user account.
- Not as easy to use as other apps (e.g. horizontal scrolling).
- It does not isolate free films from those that cost.
- It is not possible to sort within a specific category.
- Movies are mixed with TV shows.
O Roku Channel is another source I use to watch free movies. The app isn't very interesting, as it closely resembles the Roku website (which is quite simple), but there are several genres to choose from, and it's easy to watch the movies on your phone or TV.
It's easy to find recent releases, featured and recommended films, and categories relevant to certain times of the year, like Holiday Comedies and Cozy Fall Movies.
There is also a live TV area that has channels showing movies. Sure, your options are more limited than with on-demand movies, but it's a great place to visit if you're not sure what you're in the mood to watch.
This app mainly serves as a remote control for the Roku, so it's particularly useful if you have a Roku. But you don't need one to watch movies here. It works on iPhone and Android.
13. Yidio
What We Like 👍
- Helps you find free movies from across the web.
- Lots of filtering options to find your next favorite movie or TV show.
- Possibility to hide films marked as seen.
What We Don't Like 👎
- You must have other movie apps installed to watch something.
- Not everything you see is free.
- Sometimes incorrectly identifies movies as free.
O Yidio is one more streaming guide than one application to watch free movies directly. This means you cannot watch anything directly from this app. Instead, it's helpful in telling you exactly where you need to go to find free movies on the web.
To reiterate, this is yet another search engine for free movies. You can filter the list in several ways, such as by release date, MPAA rating, IMDb rating, and genre, and even hide titles you've already seen. Once you choose something to watch, you will be told where the film is available for free online.
In that sense, since the films here are not actually hosted on the Yidio, you will be instructed to install other applications like Crackle or Voodoo. However, a beneficial feature is the ability to filter by installed app. This allows you to find available movies in the apps you already have on your device.
Supported devices include iPhone, iPad and Android.
14. Kanopy
What We Like 👍

You free movies from Kanopy are only available if you have a library card at a supported library. Once connected, you can stream tens of thousands of free movies directly from your device, without ads.
Movies can be browsed by genre to find adventure movies, animal movies, quick movies, and more. Each film has a rating, a full synopsis and cast details. There are also related videos below each movie to help you find other movies you might like.
O Kanopy Kids is a special area of the application that you can access from the menu. Only films suitable for children are viewable there, and you can set up parental controls if necessary.
Although this app is free and has the incredible benefit of being ad-free, I rank it last on this list of free movie apps because it's not available to everyone like these other options are.
The app works with iPhone, iPad, Android and other devices.
